William H. Stuart, MD
Dr. William H. Stuart graduated from Northwestern University Medical School in 1961. Following an Internship at Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital, Dr. Stuart returned to Northwestern University where he completed an Internal Medicine Residency. He subsequently served as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer at the Communicable Disease Center in Atlanta for two years following which he completed a three year Fellowship in Neurology at Emory University Medical School. Upon completion of this training, and serving at the NINDS he entered private practice in the Atlanta area, forming the Atlanta Neurological Clinic, subsequently renamed The Peachtree Neurological Clinic in 1990. Dr. Stuart was one of the founding members of the American Society of Neuroimaging in 1975. He remained active with this organization and served as its President in 1984 and 1985. In 1980, he became a member of the Practice Committee of the American Academy of Neurology, remaining active on that committee until 1991 and serving as the Chairman of that committee from 1985 through 1991. He was a member of the Executive Committee of the American Academy of Neurology for several years and served for 2 years as the Treasurer. Dr Stuart's most recent activity with the AAN was aiding in the formation of the MS Section of the Academy and serving on the Long-Range Planning Committee of the American Academy of Neurology beginning that activity in 1996. Dr. Stuart has maintained a broad interest in education and has served as a Clinical Professor of Neurology at Emory University Medical School since 1987. He was twice named the Clinical Teacher of the Year at Piedmont Hospital in 1987 and 1988. Dr. Stuart's Board Certification includes the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He began his focused interest in Multiple Sclerosis in 1988, developing the Multiple Sclerosis Comprehensive Care and Research Center at Shepherd Center in 1991. He resigned this position in January 2001 to become the Medical Director of The MS Center of Atlanta. The Multiple Sclerosis Center of Atlanta[MSCA] encompasses comprehensive clinical care, as well as clinical research, socio-economic outcomes and basic science studies. Dr. Stuart has maintained an active interest in the rehabilitative aspects of Chronic Neurologic Disease and since 1995 has been the Medical Director of the Center for Rehabilitation Medicine at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

Robert W. Gilbert, Jr., MD
Dr. Robert W. Gilbert, a native Georgian, received his undergraduate degree with Phi Beta Kappa honors at Emory University and then obtained his medical degree with honors from Duke University. He completed his neurology training at Cornell Medical Center in New York City and is Board Certified in Neurology and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. He has served as an assistant clinical professor at Emory University Medical School and is past president of the Georgia Neurological Society. He is a published author and is an active member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Association of Electromyography and Electrodiagnosis and American Society of Neuroimaging. Dr. Gilbert has participated as an investigator in a number of research studies in both brain and spinal cord tumors as well as Multiple Sclerosis and headache. He lectures frequently to patients and physicians in these fields of interest.

Ellis V. Hedaya, MD
Dr. Ellis Hedaya is an honor graduate of the University of Rochester and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Neurology. He also served as a research fellow in Clinical Neurophysiology at Massachusetts General Hospital. He spent four years on the Emory Faculty at Grady Hospital before joining his current partners at Peachtree Neurological Clinic and The MS Center of Atlanta. He is board certified and is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the AMA and the American Association of Electromyography and Electrodiagnosis. Dr. Hedaya has previously served as Chief of Neurology at Grady and currently is a Clinical Associate Professor at Emory University School of Medicine. He has participated in numerous research studies, including studies in stroke, diabetic neuropathy and multiple sclerosis.

Douglas S. Stuart, MD
Dr. Douglas Stuart is a graduate of Princeton University and Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Stuart completed his Medical Internship at Emory University Hospital in 1989. He was a resident in Neurology at the University of Chicago from 1989-1992. He returned to Emory University in 1992 for a fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology. He is board certified in Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology. Dr. Stuart has participated as an investigator in a number of research trials for MS treatments and is currently participating in several ongoing trials.

Christopher S. Russell, MD
Christopher Russell is a graduate of Georgia Tech and an honor graduate of Emory University School of Medicine. At Emory, he served an Internship in Internal Medicine and was Chief Resident in Neurology. He has been with the Peachtree Neurology Clinic since 1998.

 

Andrei I. Serbanescu, MD
Born in Bucharest, Romania and then naturalized as a U.S. citizen, Dr Andrei Serbanescu graduated from the Medical School Carol Davila in Bucharest completing his research thesis in Multiple Sclerosis. Subsequently he underwent extensive training in Neurosurgery in Bucharest, Brussels and then Paris. In the U.S.A. since 1992 he worked at Emory University departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery research laboratories then completed the neurology residency at Emory University. He is diplomat of the American Academy of Neurology and Psychiatry and ACNS certified in Neuroimaging. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, ASN, MAG, AMA.

David P. Williams, MD
Dr. David Williams is a native of Pittsburgh, PA and graduate of Cornell University. He graduated cum laude from Emory University School of Medicine where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honors society. Dr. Williams went on to complete both neurology residency and clinical neurophysiology fellowship (with concentration in neuromuscular disease) at Emory as well. In addition to being board certified in neurology he has sub-specialty board certification in clinical neurophysiology by the ABPN.

Mitzi Williams, MD, is a neurologist in the Multiple Sclerosis Center of Atlanta, GA. She earned her BS degree in neuroscience and behavioral biology from Emory University and her MD from Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA. She completed her internship and neurology residency at MCG and her fellowship at the Augusta Multiple Sclerosis Center. During her training, she was a Graduate Medical Education Committee Resident Member and Chief Resident in Neurology. She is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and holds memberships in the National MS Society, the American Academy of Neurology, the Christian Medical and Dental Association, and the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers. In her work as Medical Director at the Augusta MS Center, she served a patient population of over 1,400 people in Georgia and South Carolina. She has spoken both nationally and abroad in conjunction with the Accreditation Council for Medical Education (ACCME) and other organizations. She has received numerous recognitions for her professional and educational achievements, including a Neurology Resident Scholarship, Aventis Pharmaceuticals Scholar Award, and a nomination for Resident of the Year at the Georgia Health Sciences University.

Thorne S. Winter III, MD, FACP, FACC,
Medical Director, Internal Medicine Department
Dr. Thorne Winter III attended Harvard Medical School and received graduate training at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Emory and the National Institutes of Health. He has maintained his private practice in Atlanta for some 40 years. As a diplomate of the American Board of Cardiology, he offers a wealth of expertise not only in general medicine, but also in diseases of the cardiovascular system.

James N. Brawner III, MD, FACP
Dr. James N. Brawner III attended Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and took his internship and residency there. He then returned to Emory for his Fellowship in Cardiology. He has been practicing since 1965, and served as Chief of Medicine and also as Chairman of the Board at Piedmont Hospital. He is recognized for his diagnostic expertise in internal medicine and cardiology.

David E. Dalrymple, MD, FACP, FACE
Dr. David Dalrymple is a graduate of University of Chicago School of Medicine. He completed his Internship and Residency at the University of Iowa followed by a Fellowship in Metabolism and Endocrinology at Barnes Hospital, Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Dalrymple served in the U.S. Army at Fort Gordon in Augusta. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and has practiced General Internal Medicine and Endocrinology since 1971at Northside Hospital and Saint Joseph’s Hospital before joining the Internal Medicine Division at the Multiple Sclerosis Center of Atlanta.

Charles E. Harrison, MD, MACP
Dr. Charles Harrison, graduated from Vanderbilt University and received his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at Grady Hospital in Atlanta and Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, N.C. Dr. Harrison served in the U.S. Air Force at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, AL.  He practiced internal medicine at Piedmont Hospital for 42 years.  He is certified and re-certified by the American College of Physicians.  He served as team physician for the Atlanta Falcons from 1966 to 2008. 

S. Robert Lathan, MD, FACP, FACCP
Dr. Robert Lathan graduated from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and later interned at Duke Medical Center before completing his residency and cardiopulmonary fellowship at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. For the past 37 years, he has been in private practice at Piedmont Hospital. Dr. Lathan is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is also a fellow of the American College of Physicians and American College of Chest Physicians.

Eileen M. Gallagher, RN, CNP, CMSC, CMC
Eileen M. Gallagher worked as a clinical nurse specialist for 15 years before completing a master's degree in women's health from the State University of New York at Buffalo. In 1998, she joined the Jacobs Neurological Institute in Buffalo, N. Y., where she was mentored for three years by the late Lawrence D. Jacobs, M.D. During that time Gallagher combined her experience in women’s health with her training in neurological disease and helped develop the Center for Women with Disabilities where she provided gynecologic and obstetric care to disabled women. Gallagher is a certified clinician in multiple sclerosis and menopause. She brings expertise to a field of neurological disease that commonly strikes women during their prime reproductive years, continuing on through menopause and beyond. Her primary research interest is osteoporosis in multiple sclerosis. As a nurse practitioner, Gallagher is certified to make independent and collaborative health care decisions. She assesses and manages both medical and nursing problems. She takes patient histories, conducts physical examinations, orders and interprets tests and diagnostic procedures, and prescribes pharmacological agents, treatments and nonpharmacological therapies for the management of the conditions she diagnoses.
