The MS Center exists to improve the health and hope of MS patients through advocacy, education, state of the art treatment and research leading to a more promising future.
Our History
MSCA was founded in 2001 by William H. Stuart, M.D., a leading specialist in MS and neurology. The center is a comprehensive health care practice devoted to controlling the chronic, lifelong illness of MS.
Since its inception, the center has taken a progressive approach to therapies and applies an aggressive treatment model in its mission to enhance the lives of MS patients and their families. Through its clinical programs, research projects and quality of life care, it has fast become a leading center of excellence in the field.
In 2003, MSCA became a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, giving the center a new structure to provide a better level of care to patients, especially those who are disadvantaged. This status allows MSCA to accept charitable contributions earmarked for research and new treatments.
Before forming MSCA, Dr. Stuart spent 10 years with the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, where he was founder and medical director of the Multiple Sclerosis Comprehensive Care and Research Center. With an intense, 16-year focus on MS, as part of a medical career that spans nearly 45 years, Dr. Stuart helped bring pivotal MS clinical drug trials to Atlanta in the early 1990s, giving patients access to new treatments for this debilitating disease.
MSCA has an exceptional staff of 8 neurologists, 2 nurse practitioners, 7 registered nurses, and dozens of support specialists and staff to service the needs of a growing patient base. The center primarily serves patients from the Southeast, although it does accept patients from around the country and even some international patients.
